Stelliers on Tour: From Chengdu to Chongqing

Recent travels took Sophie Yan, Stelliers’ Executive Assistant Manager, to Chengdu and Chongqing, where the trip combined reconnecting with long-time industry friends and meeting many new members of the Southwest China hospitality community.

Eric Li, Director of Operations; Leighanne Zeng, Assistant Director of Events, JW Marriott Chongqing

Achim Brueckner, General Manager; Cindy Zeng, Resident Manager, InterContinental Chongqing Raffles City

In Chengdu, many discussions centred around supply and rate pressure, particularly for convention-focused hotels, and the realities of staying competitive in a challenging environment.

Sean Yuan, Executive Assistant Manager, InterContinental Chengdu Global Center

Joyce Zhao, General Manager, W Chengdu

In Chongqing, there was a sense of resilience and momentum, with positive talks regarding business levels and stronger-than-expected performance so far this year.

Eileen Hong, Public Relations Manager, Kempinski Chengdu

Snow Gan, Director of Sales and Marketing, Hyatt Regency Metropolitan Chongqing

There was also real excitement around the three new award categories for Stelliers Greater China 2026: Pastry Chef, Security Hotelier, and Contract (Casual) Hotelier. They were continuously well received as a way of recognising even more roles in the industry that don’t always receive the spotlight they deserve.

Eva Tang, Assistant Director of Human Resources; Sanna Francesco, Executive Chef, Niccolo Chongqing

Christian Kronast, General Manager; Kylie Lam, Hotel Manager; Alexander Frank, Director of Food & Beverage, Upper House Chengdu

More than anything, the trip was a reminder of how much openness there is in this industry when peers come together to share honestly.

Eileen Ke, Director of Learning and Development; Sammie Xie, Executive Assistant Manager; John Wang, Director of Human Resources, InterContinental Century City Chengdu

Douglas Huang, General Manager; Cary Zhou, Assistant Director of Marketing Communications, The St. Regis Chengdu

Thank you to everyone who made time to meet with Sophie and for the generous conversations across both cities. We look forward to seeing even more of Southwest China represented in Stelliers Greater China 2026!
