Meet William Mackay | Stelliers Greater China 2025 Judge

William Mackay

Former President of Operations at Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts, Asia Pacific

Stelliers is beyond excited to be welcoming William Mackay to the Stelliers Greater China 2025 judging panel, bringing with him an incredible legacy of leadership, innovation, and excellence in luxury hospitality. With over four decades of experience in the industry, William has played a pivotal role in defining hospitality excellence and mentoring future leaders.

His journey began as a kitchen intern at the Connaught Hotel in London, where he witnessed first-hand the sense of elation that comes from an all-out effort by a united team of professionals to achieve perfection – an early experience that instilled in him a deep appreciation for craftsmanship, teamwork, and the relentless pursuit of quality.

He worked as a member of Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts for 34 years, joining the Company in San Francisco in 1982, and acquiring experience in all of the USA, Canada, Asia and Europe.  At the time of his retirement from Four Seasons, William was the President of Operations for APAC, based in Singapore. In this role, as well as overseeing the operation of all Four Seasons ’properties in Asia, William was involved in the development and openings of hotels in Shenzhen, Macau, Guangzhou, Tianjin, Tokyo, Hoi An (Vietnam), Jakarta, Kyoto and Bangkok.

William is probably best known in Asia for having been the opening General Manager and Regional V.P. of the Four Seasons Hotel in Hong Kong between 2004 and 2014. As well as achieving exceptional business results, the Hotel earned Michelin three star awards for both of its in-house restaurants, Caprice and Lung King Heen, as well as Forbes Five Star designations for the Hotel, Spa and both its restaurants. During his time in Hong Kong, William also served as a main Board Member of the Hong Kong Tourist Board, and the Chairman of its Staff & Finance Committee.

After retiring from Four Seasons, William served as an Executive Vice President of Shangri-La and Hotels and Resorts for 4 years, responsible primarily for its European and North American operations, as well as latterly for its Middle Eastern portfolio of managed hotels.

Now, as a Stelliers Greater China 2025 judge, William brings his wealth of expertise and passion for hospitality to recognise and celebrate the region’s most exceptional talent.
