How Melco Integrates Sustainability into Luxury Hospitality
True luxury is no longer defined only by what guests experience, but also by the impact created behind the scenes. NORDAQ and Melco are demonstrating how sustainability, operational excellence and elevated hospitality can work together as part of a broader vision for the future.
As part of Melco’s RISE sustainability strategy and its ambition to achieve zero-waste and carbon-neutral resorts by 2030, Studio City has integrated NORDAQ’s on-site water filtration and bottling solution into its operations. In 2025 alone, the property avoided the use of 4.7 million single-use plastic water bottles - reducing the need for international shipping, storage and disposal while supporting Melco’s wider circular-economy initiatives.
The impact extends beyond the bottling plant. By producing premium still and sparkling water on site and serving it in refillable glass bottles, Melco is creating a more consistent and thoughtful experience for guests, wherever it operates. The initiative enables Melco to provide filtered local drinking water across Macau, Manila, Sri Lanka and Cyprus without compromising the quality standards that are central to the guest experience, the group can offer the same refined standard while using locally sourced water in each destination.
We visited Studio City with Johanna Mattsson, NORDAQ CEO, to explore how this approach is embraced across the property.
