1. Why should I apply for this platform

Stelliers is a prestigious and respected platform that rests upon the values of transparency and fairness. The main mission of Stelliers is to recognise the exceptional hoteliers of the hospitality industry and pave the way for the younger hotelier generation. Applying to the platform not only encourages personal growth, it also serves as a great method to give back to your team. The application is completely free of charge.

2. What are the main requirements for an application?

To apply, you must have held a post at your current property for a minimum of 9 months prior to the application deadline.

3. How do I apply for this platform? (what are the steps for submitting an application?)

1. All applications must be made through the website, except for the Rising Star award*

*Applications for The Rising Star award will be submitted by the school’s faculty. The school’s faculty will select their top 3 applications and nominate them. Applications submitted will be given to Rising Star Judging Panel for review.

4. Are there any fees I should be aware of to apply or throughout the competition?

It is 100% free to apply for the competition. There are no additional costs throughout the competition. If you would like to attend the Grand Awards Ceremony where the winners are announced, tickets cost:

  • USD255 Per hotel or cruise line participant, this reduced price is available for purchase for their family and friends
  • USD510 per non-hotel or non-cruise line participant

Please note that if the winner announced is not at the ceremony, the trophy will be shipped to their property.

5. What are the judging criteria?

Based on the application and testimonials submitted, the judges look at what the candidates have accomplished for their team and hotel and whether the candidates have gone above and beyond to help achieve the team’s collective goals. Additionally, the judges consider the candidates’ leadership and problem-solving skills as well as their passion for the hospitality industry.

6. How are the hotels being judged? Will the judges be going down to the hotels to have a look?

Stelliers is not a competition for hotels, but for individuals working in the hospitality industry, for that reason, our judges will not be visiting hotel properties as part of their judging process.

7. Do we (the hoteliers) have to prepare anything before judging commences?

The only preparation required before the judging commences is to fill out the application to the best of your knowledge and ability.

8. What is the judging process?

The judging process is as follows:

  • Round 1: Applications received from Hoteliers will be reviewed by the judges who will each choose their top candidates. The Judging Panel will then meet and reach a consensus on the top 5 finalists in each category.
  • Round 2: The finalists, excluding the General Manager and Corporate Hotelier finalists*, will undertake a telephone interview with a representative from the Organising Company. This interview will be transcribed and shared to the Judging Panel.
  • The judging panel will then decide on winners based on the scoring system listed below:
    • Each member of the Judging Panel and the Rising Star Judging Panel will have 6 points in total; they will attribute 1,2,3 points to their top 3 finalists.
    • The sum of these points will establish the winner of the category.

*General Manager and Corporate Hotelier finalists will undergo a face-to-face interview with the Judging Panel on the day of the Grand Awards Ceremony. If a finalist of the mentioned categories cannot attend the face-to-face interview, he or she will be removed from the competition and from winning the award.

9. In your event timeline, you noted that there will be finalist interviews for the final judging. Who will be interviewed? How will these interviews be conducted?

Only finalists will be interviewed. During the second round of judging (after the finalist announcement), the interviews are conducted via a phone call. The interviews are recorded (voice-only), transcribed and sent to the judges for review. General Manager and APAC Corporate Hotelier Finalists’ interviews are in-person and conducted on the day of the Grand Awards Ceremony.

10. For the actual awards ceremony, is every applicant allowed to attend, or is it only for award winners? (Is it a by-invitation only event?)

All applicants or non-applicants are welcomed to attend the awards ceremony. If you wish to attend the ceremony, a ticket must be purchased.

11. What do the Awards recipients receive?

A winner of the Awards receives a trophy with their name engraved, while finalists receive a framed certificate with their name included. Winners of the Rising Star award receives a trophy and an internship program at the winner’s choice of one of the top five-star hotels worldwide.
